Nestled between an arm of the well-known backwaters in Kerala and the sea, the quaint Poovar Island Resort boasts its own Ayurveda Village. After a short transfer from Trivandrum Airport, you will board the resort’s own boat to reach the resort itself. During the short drive through the unique lagoon landscape you already have the opportunity to leave everyday life behind and enjoy the first impressions of this tropical paradise, which will accompany you during your traditional Ayurveda treatment incl. Yoga.

The complex of the eco-conscious Ayurveda resort has a village-like character with two centers: on the one hand the main building with reception, restaurant and pool and a variety of cottages for all guests and then there is a separate Ayurveda Village, exclusively available for Ayurveda guests. In addition to the 16 Ayurveda Village Cottages (8 of which newly built), there is also a separate pool and beautiful treatment rooms as well as the Ayurveda Restaurant. The generous, attractive and Green Leaf certified Ayurveda Center is run by 2 Ayurveda doctors and a professional therapist team. Nestled in waterways and gardens, you can enjoy peace and relaxation in the bright treatment rooms. In coordination with your stay, the intensity of your Ayurveda treatment is determined. The Poovar Island Resort is particular good fit if suffering from illnesses such as burnout, sleep disorders, migraine and back problems, as the Ayurveda here serves as a bridge between tradition and modernity focuses on western guests. Daily yoga or meditation takes place in an open yoga hall and optimally rounds off your authentic experience. In the Ayurveda Restaurant you will enjoy vegetarian Ayurveda cuisine adapted to your therapy plan.

The remaining 70 cottages at Poovar Island Resort are scattered among the lush, peachy gardens of the main resort: choose between Land Cottages, Premier Land Cottages, or the exceptional Floating Cottages floating on the backwater.

In addition to the two pools, the resort also features two restaurants (main restaurant “Tiffins” with continental and Asian cuisine and separate Ayurveda restaurant), a shop, a gym, a library and a butterfly garden. The offshore sandy beach can be reached by boat in about 5 minutes. However, the sea is not recommended for swimming, as there are always strong currents.

Excursions or activities such as fishing and kayaking will be arranged by the friendly team at Poovar Island Resort. You you can drive to the beach with the boat and watch the sunset, or visit the Cape Kanyakumari, which is a sacred place for Indians. Also workshops, such as palm reading or pottery, can be booked on request.

By installing a solar system, small windmills, a water purification plant and the use of solar and electric boats, the Poovar Island Resort is one of the pioneers in sustainable tourism in this region of India.

Land Cottage

Floating Cottage
The signature Floating Cottages in traditional Kerala style float on the backwater and are environmentally friendly as they use solar and wind energy. They are equipped with a fan, a glassed-in bedroom and satellite TV, telephone, coffee / tea set and minibar, as well as a balcony / terrace with a unique view of the backwaters.

Premium Land Cottage
A bit off the beaten track, Premier Land Cottages are more spacious and offer more exclusive bathrooms.

Ayurv. Suite Cottage
The Ayurveda Suite Cottages feature a visually separate living / sleeping area, an open bathroom and also offer a view pool of the Ayurveda area.
